Name: William Cockett
Ship: Fishburn
Reason: Sailor (Seaman)
Ship Experience: The Fishburn was a supply ship and as such needed only 22 crew.
Us seamen had fairly close quarters, only we weren't restrained like the convicts were. Our food was the same as that of the convicts but we got larger rations. We were also entrusted to look after the livestock we were transporting, including, 18 Turkeys, 29 Geese, 35 Ducks, 122 Fowls, 87 Chickens, Kittens, Puppies, 4 Mares, 2 Stallions, 4 Cows, 1 Bull, 1 Bull Calf, 44 Sheep, 19 Goats, 32 Hogs and 5 Rabbits.
Fugitive sighting: I have heard someone creeping about the deck after hours, so have the others, some say the ship is haunted. There has been word of supplies going missing on the borrowdale, you may like to try your luck on that ship.
The Future of: Once we had reached Australia myself and the other seamen from the Prince of Wales, Fishburn and Friendship were sent ashore to cut wood for the women’s huts and helped to build them.
By July we had built two storehouses, which meant we could start to unload the stores and provisions from the ships. The building of these storehouses for the cargo off Golden Grove and Fishburn had delayed our departure home. We did not stay in the new colony as we were needed to sail the ships back home.
